The local music scene was alive and kicking as July 15th saw an abundance of quality shows around Metro Manila. The hundreds-strong crowd at B-Side, The Collective in Makati, however, would’ve told you that you definitely missed out if you weren’t at Move Forward Productions Second Anniversary. Aside from the stellar line-up composed of Autotelic, Chicosci, Gab & John, Jensen and the Flips, Miles Experience, There’s ERA, Tom’s Story, and Typecast, there were more than a few surprises along the way...
Here’s what you missed:
Fresh off of the release of their latest single, “Sunshine,” MilesExperience debuted a new track titled “Spaces.” The song will be part of their upcoming album to be released by late 2017.
Most gig-goers are used to seeing Gab and John of Urbandub do the occasional gig around the Metro, but mostly only as an acoustic duo. This time, they surprised everyone by performing the hits with a full band set-up, taking everyone back to the early 2000s!
If the crowd was overwhelmed by Urbandub’s performance, the roller coaster of emotions wasn’t gonna stop there. During a break in “Hanap,” keyboardist Kai Honasan was in for the surprise of her life. Balloons held up by the crowd spelled out “MARRY ME” while Chicosci bassist Eco del Rio walked up the stage to make the moment official, to the loud cheers of the ever-supportive audience.
Meanwhile, drummer Gep Macadaeg also proposed to his long-time girlfriend over the weekend. Congratulations to the two happy couples!
Amidst classic tracks like “Will You Ever Learn” and “The Boston Drama,” Typecast put their spin on Rivermaya’s “Himala.”
Jensen and the Flips
The crowd was as just as hyper as ever at 3AM, all thanks to an energetic closing set by Jensen and the Flips, who gave it their all even after two gigs earlier in the day. The band performed a couple of crowd-favorites off of their debut album, as well as their newest track, “Love and You.”
