The ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID has truly become an annual staple of the Philippine Christmas season, next to Jose Mari Chan and Ariel Rivera's "Sana Ngayong Pasko." And ABS-CBN has managed to do it through the years by working with the best songwriters around, being musically and lyrically relevant with the times, and the close attention to detail with assigning who will sing and the musical/vocal arrangements.
2022’s “Tayo Ang Ligaya Ng Isa’t Isa” exemplifies this. The song quickly touched the hearts of Filipinos as its lyric video registered over five million combined views on Facebook and YouTube. ABS-CBN’s new Christmas anthem reminds Filipinos that in times of great worry and trouble, we can always find joy if we hold on to God, family, and friends.
Like in previous years, the lyric video is star-studded featuring Kapamilya stars including Jane de Leon, Janella Salvador, Joshua Garcia, KD Estrada, Alexa Ilacad, Donny Pangilinan, Belle Mariano, Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, Ogie Alcasid, Anne Curtis, Kim Chiu, Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Sarah Geronimo, Gary Valenciano, and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.
Jolina Magdangal, Melai Cantiveros, AC Bonifacio, Andrea Brillantes, Seth Fedelin, Francine Diaz, Darren Espanto, Kyle Echarri, Jed Madela, Klarisse de Guzman, Morissette, Angeline Quinto, Erik Santos, KZ Tandingan, Elha Nympha, Khimo Gumatay, Anji Salvacion, Bailey May, Piolo Pascual, Chito Miranda, Moira dela Torre, and Sharon Cuneta together with the DYCI Dagalak Choir were also present in the lyric video.
According to ABS-CBN Head of Creative Communications Management Robert Labayen who co-wrote the song with Mr. Music himself, multi-awarded songwriter-producer Jonathan Manalo, the message of this year’s Christmas ID is to inspire Filipinos that they can bounce back and find happiness as they face life’s trials.
“Gusto nating sabihin na makakagawa tayo ng paraan para hanapin ang ligaya,” he said in an interview with TV Patrol.
"I have had the privilege to work behind the scenes, more of coordination and helping facilitate the past Christmas IDs but it’s my first time to actually compose the music to the beautiful lyrics of sir Robert Labayen who has written all of our well-loved station IDs through the years," Jonathan Manalo said when asked about his role for the song. "When I first learned about the opportunity of me doing the music for this year’s Christmas ID, I honestly felt so pressured at first, but then I prayed and just let the Holy Spirit guide me and let His melody flow through me, because He is the reason for the season, and the best way to undertake a challenging task such as this is to plug in and get connected to our ultimate source of all, our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ."
When asked about the pressure that came with trying to live up to the legacy established by such a much-anticipated annual tradition: "Yes (laughs), grabe ang na-set na standards ng previous IDs natin, so the pressure is real. Only by the grace of God, I am somehow able to do it. And also what a perfect timing that I’m doing it this year in time for the celebration of my 20th year in the music industry."
With that being said, here are our reevaluated Top 6 picks from the ABS-CBN Christmas Station IDs from 2009 to 2022. This is a totally subjective selection, and everybody's choices are valid:

#5
"Thank You for the Love" (2015)
Lyrics: Robert Labayen
Music: Thyro Alfaro & Yumi Lacsamana
Recorded by: Daniel Padilla, Kathlyn Bernardo, Enrique Gil, Liza Soberano, James Reid, Nadine Lustre, Bamboo, Elha Nympha
Key Lyrics:
"Tuwing pasko, whoa-oh-whoa
Mas ramdam mo, whoa-oh-whoa
Dama sa ating tinig ang init ng pag-ibig
Oh, whoa-oh
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Thank you, thank you for the love"
The Holy Trinity of Modern Love Teams - Kathniel, LizQuen, and Jadine - collaborate with Bamboo and Elha Nympha. Even after seven years and one of them breaking up in real life, this triaxis still lords over almost everyone else. This one has the perfect use of "whoa-oh-woahs" among all the Christmas IDs, and that amplifies to the teenybopper appeal of the love teams during this time. And seriously, are we ever going to see them on a single TV frame ever again?

The Voice Kids Top 4 of this year basically told the adults, "We got this". Working off the classic colloquial Christmas carol line, this is probably the most caroling-friendly song out of this lot, with the exception of our #1 choice.
#2

Ikaw ang liwanag at ligaya..."
A heartfelt song that addresses the Kapamilyas who continue to support the network despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic and the network shutdown. Despite the challenges, we are alive because of YOU, our Kapamilyas. It's amazing how the Christmas spirit is felt in this song despite the sad backstory.
#1
"Star Ng Pasko" (2009)
Lyrics: Robert Labeyen
Music: Amber & Marcus Davis
Performed By: Various Artists
Key Lyrics:
"Ang liwanag na ito
Na nasa 'ting lahat
May sinag ang bawat pusong bukas
Sa init ng mga yakap
Maghihilom ang lahat ng sugat
Ang nagsindi nitong ilaw
Walang iba kundi ikaw
Salamat sa liwanag mo
Muling magkakakulay ang Pasko"
Written in the wake of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, the song became a song of hope during the season this was released. There's always going to be that cold night during the Christmas season when you'll find yourself alone and hear this song all of a sudden. You're going to reflect whether this year was good (the year you got your highest-paying job, or the year you met your girlfriend) or bad (the year you could barely make ends meet, or the year your girlfriend unceremoniously broke up with you). Of course results varied, but one thing's for sure: there were tears.
