In the early 2000’s, then teen breakout actor Carlo Aquino began a parallel music career as the lead vocalist of the band Kollide and a member of the teenage pop trio JCS, which included fellow young stars at the time, John Prats and Stefano Mori.
Fast forward to 2018, Carlo started to revisit his musical past by performing the song “Bituin” for the official soundtrack of his film Meet Me in St. Gallen with actress Bela Padilla.
And now, Carlo has gone full throttle in his musical comeback as a solo artist after his remarkable career resurgence last year. Carlo’s label, Ivory Music, released his debut solo single, “Komplikado” on all digital music platforms late last month.
During his single launch held last Sunday, April 7, the 33-year-old actor/musician said he was excited about his musical return.
Carlo divulged that he wrote “Komplikado” with Silent Sanctuary vocalist Sarkie Sarangay—a collaboration, he said, that was a learning experience. He also revealed how he writes his songs.
He went on saying that his inspiration in songwriting usually comes from his experiences in life and from other people’s stories at times. He makes himself grow by listening to all kinds of genres, including the songs of his musician friends and other bands.
Some of Carlo’s musical influences include Coldplay, Matchbox 20 and the band Hanson, which inspired the formation and the songs of JCS.
When asked about whether he plans to focus on his music career more than his career as an actor, Carlo tells us that singing and acting are both dear to him and neither of the two stands greater than the other.
Tapos ‘pag sa music naman, nakikita nila ako as Carlo, as ako talaga. Nakaka-inspire din [ako] dahil sa music. As long as nakaka-inspire ka naman siguro nasa tamang daan ka,” the actor/musician says.
Hoping for the success of his single, Carlo tells us that his ultimate goal is to release an album that will tackle life in general; aiming to create a connection with the listeners which he says is the true definition of success when it comes to music.
Then, he immediately jested, “Pero mas happy rin kung sumikat siya (the song) ‘di ba.”
Although Carlo is currently busy with the progress of his single, he stated that he is very excited to have more music projects. He dreams to have song collaborations with other OPM artists like Unique Salonga, and with bands like Mayonnaise and Ben&Ben. He also expressed how he missed being on a band and tells us that he still hopes to be part of a pop music group someday.Ivory Music says that Carlo will also promote his single on May 19 at Pavillion Mall in Binan, Laguna and on May 25 at KCC Mall in General Santos City. Meanwhile, the recording company tells us that the music video shoot for “Komplikado” will hopefully be finished this summer.
