Last month, One Music PH announced a contest for aspiring Filipino singers and composers. We encouraged these composers to submit their original compositions for a chance to be a part of the soundtrack of Star Cinema’s upcoming film, “Vince and Kath and James.” The film is based on a fictional story that recently went viral online, and it will star Julia Barretto, Joshua Garcia, and Maris Racal.
We are proud to announce that officials of Star Music and Star Cinema have chosen “Hey Crush,” a composition by our Be Discovered Artist Volts Vallejo! We sat down with Volts shortly after the announcement to find out more about his new track.
“Yung ‘Hey Crush,’ song siya na ginawa ko specifically for that movie. Talagang binasa ko siya, yung text-serye. After ko binasa, kumuha ako ng mga words na magiging familiar yung mga tao, tapos nilagay ko sa kanta,” he says of the track. ("'Hey Crush' is a song I wrote specifically for the movie. I really read the text series. After I read it, I picked words that people would be familiar with, and put it in the song.")
After finding out about the competition, he shares that he actually wrote two songs about the text-serye. “Actually, dalawang kanta yung ginawa ko. Yung isa, upbeat, tapos yung isa medyo mabigat. Kaya lang, kung ipapasok ko yung medyo malungkot, parang hindi bagay sa movie.” He does have plans, however, of releasing the other track, so fans might want to watch out for that as well. ("Actually, I wrote two songs. One was upbeat, and the other was a little heavier. But I thought that if I entered the sadder track, it wouldn't fit the movie.")
“Hey Crush” will also be Volts’ first appearance on a soundtrack, so he considers it as another milestone in his musical journey. “[I was] surprised, kasi madami na yatang magagaling na nag-pasa. Tapos happy, syempre, nung napili pala ako. Happy din kasi masasama siya sa movie eh, tapos under Star Cinema, under ABS-CBN, so parang achievement siya.” ("I was surprised, because a lot of talented people passed entries for the contest. And I was happy, of course, when I was chosen. I'm happy that it will be included in the movie, under Star Cinema and ABS-CBN, so it's an achievement for me.")
Of course, he will still continue to create new music, post covers on his social media accounts, and perform at gigs and events around Manila. Follow Volts Vallejo on Facebook, and be sure to subscribe to One Music PH for more updates!
