Darren Espanto is having a very, very good week.
The 18-year-old Total Performer and Asia's Phoenix, Morissette Amon, were chosen by Disney to sing the local version "A Whole New World" for the 2019 live-action film adaptation of "Aladdin," and their performance was received with high praises from everyone, including the original song's original composer, Alan Menken.
Morissette recently flew to Tokyo to meet the Oscar-winning composer and Will Smith, who plays the wish granting Genie in this year's film adaptation of the Disney classic. At the Genie's request, Morissette and Alan performed the famous duet, resulting in this magical moment:
Darren was unfortunately unable fly with Morissette to meet with them, so Alan Menken sent him a special message.
If we were in Darren's shoes, we'd be gobsmacked, too! But we can't blame Alan Menken, either—they sound amazing!
That must have been the icing on the (birthday) cake for the The Voice Kids alum, who recently celebrated his 18th birthday and his 5th year in the industry on ASAP.
Darren has certainly gone a long way from, but for now, let him and Morissette take you on a magic carpet ride in the official music video of "A Whole New World" below:
