Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter DAVEY LANGIT will release his new single “Oryang” this Friday, November 29 in time for Andres Bonifacio Day the following day. The song was inspired by a fictional love letter written by playwright Eljay Castro Deldoc imagining Bonifacio sending a love letter to Gregoria “Oryang” de Jesus. The work of fiction went viral in 2015.
The fictional letter was originally published on MAGHIMAGSIK: Mga Tula, Sulatin at Larawan ng Pakikibaka ni Andres Bonifacio at ng Kabataang Makabayan, a literary book released by CEGP and Anakbayan commemorating Bonifacio’s 150th birthday last 2015. You can find it on its entirety on this Facebook on League of Filipino Students – UP Diliman (LFS-UPD) post:
Langit reimagines Deldoc’s letter by lyrically capturing its essence in adept fashion and musically giving it a folk kundiman-esque flair. Here’s a short sampling from Davey from his official Facebook artist page:
Or you can find it both on Spotify: https://backl.ink/95181723 and ABS-CBN Music’s (Star Music) official YouTube channel.
