Last year, it was announced that there would be a Broadway revival of Miss Saigon from spring of 2017 to January 15, 2018. Now, the full cast has been announced, and among them are Filipino talents Rachelle Ann Go (Gigi Van Tranh), Eva Noblezada (Kim), Jon Jon Briones (Engineer), Billy Bustamante, Catherine Ricafort, and Lianah Sta. Ana. Joining them are Alistair Brammer, Katie Rose Clarke, Nicholas Christopher, and Devin Ilaw.
Understandably, the cast looks to Lea Salonga as their inspiration. “She will always be an inspiration. She's gonna be someone that I always look up to, her amongst many other people that I use as my role models, like my mom, like my auntie who is also Filipina, who is also Kim,” said Noblezada to ABS-CBN News.
Based on Giacomo Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Miss Saigon tells the story of a relationship between an American soldier and a Vietnamese bargirl. With music by Claude-Michel Schonberg and lyrics by Alain Boublil, the pair behind Les Miserables, Miss Saigon has become Broadway’s thirteenth longest-running show.
Rehearsals will start this week, and the show will run from March 23 until January 13, 2018 before going on a North American tour later that year.
