It’s strange to look at the music industry and see that a large majority of its artists are based in Manila. The individual artists might hail from various provinces around the Philippines, but they all collectively decide to stay and become based in Manila. There are exceptions to this, however. Lots of other bands and musical outfits are proudly based in their hometown, and are often very vocal about creating a homegrown music scene right then and there. ISOtones, based in Tacloban City, is one of those bands.
They describe themselves as alternative pop rock. The Leyte natives started out in 2014 as a project band for a competition. The members themselves come from different bands, but collectively decided to come together to create ISOtones. Individually, they are Gerald Sam Bandilla on Vocals/Guitars, Michelangelo Palacio on Lead Guitars, Cesar Agnes Jr. on Bass, and Juan Miguel Enage on Drums. They decided to make their musical partnership permanent when the band started winning competitions as well as being invited as guests and front acts for events held in their area, Region 8.
Right now, these boys are still playing and promoting heavily in their hometown, but with the release of their debut music video on MYX, that might all change and we might start seeing shows featuring them here in Manila. Or you know, let’s support provincial bands and just travel to Leyte, and enjoy the scenery along the way!

A purveyor of fine coffee, menswear, and life experiences. Raf is an ex-musician himself, and started with heavy metal, but now currently listens to K-Pop, Future Funk, and Vaporwave. There are few things he doesn’t listen to, so feel free to message him your song and artist suggestions.
