The list of the Top 12 Finalists of the Himig Handog 2020 Songwriting Competitions has been released.
The 12 finalists bested over 3000 contestants from as far away as the United States and the Middle East.
The finalists are almost all newbies and from various regions in the Philipopines. One finalist came from the United States. Dan Tanedo, who won last year's contest, also made it to the list.
Since the first Himig Handog in the year 2000, many amateur songwriters have gotten breaks through the contest and have gone on to become professional songwriters and artists. Himig Handog has also been a source of iconic OPM songs -- such as "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana," "This Guy's In Love With You, Pare," and "Hanggang", as well as recent hits such as "Mahal Ko O Mahal Ako," "Titibo-tibo" and "Mabagal."
The 12 songs chosen for the finals will be assigned interpreters to be mutually chosen by Star Music and the songwriter/contestant. The songs will then be arranged and recorded professionally, released on various digital service platforms, and then promoted on tri-media and on digital. A music video will be produced for each recording. Finally, the interpreters will be presented during the finals night.
The composer of the winning entry will be awarded One Million Pesos (P1,000,000.00).
