It’s no secret that Katy Perry has always been a music artist who dares to integrate the spectacular, and the bizarre even at times, with her music. In her fourth visit to Manila, she brought all that unto the stage, and allowed the Filipino audience to be mesmerized in wonder.
Last April 2, she held the Manila leg of her Witness: The Tour at the Mall of Asia Arena, and boy was it an evening to remember.
Even before the show began, you could anticipate that the entire performance will include visual spectacles as a giant eye glares (and blinks) at the awaiting audience in the thousands.
When the pop icon emerged from the stage in bright red outfit, accompanied by smoke, and greeted by deafening screams and cheers of the crowd, she said what probably everyone had wanted to say as well. “I’ve been waiting for a long time, but now I can see you.”
While Perry’s current tour is driven by her latest album “Witness,” she couldn’t have assembled a more enjoyable set list as she performed so many of her great hits throughout her career so far.
Divided into five acts – wherein everyone at the show got the privilege of being treated to set designs that could impress just about anyone: from giant red roses with an eye ball to a Venus fly trap where Perry could fit to a trip to the outer space and more – the concert featured timeless hits by the pop icon such from “I Kissed a Girl” to “California Girls,” “Teenage Dream” to “E.T.” to more recent favorites like “Swish Swish” and “Bon Appetit.”
Indeed, the show’s festive mood and production were perfect for the Filipino audience. Also worthy of mentioning was the moment when Perry invited a lucky fan to go up on the stage and have a chat with her. As it turned out, the young man all dressed up in a toga would be graduating from college the following day, and so his time with Perry was most definitely the perfect graduation gift.
To end her fifth act, Perry aptly went with “Roar” to the delight of everyone in attendance before capping off the night with an encore performance of “Firework” wherein fireworks literally lit up the arena.
That special Monday night in Manila wasn’t just a concert. It was an experience, and we were all witnesses.
“Witness: The Tour – Katy Perry Live in Manila 2018” was presented by AEG Presents and Ovation Productions.

It may seem that Karlos is out of place in One Music PH because he’s someone who can’t live without sports. Until of course, he realized that he is equally passionate with music as well. He may not admit it just yet, but Karlos loves Davie Bowie very much. Oh, and he runs a barbershop too.
