If there’s one good thing that has happened during this pandemic, it is that artists across Southeast Asia are discovering each other and becoming open to doing cross-border and cross-cultural collaborations.
The recently-released “Heal,” for example, was headlined by Valentina Ploy of Thailand, Rinni Wulandari of Indonesia, Moira Dela Torre of the Philippines, and 11 other artists from 5 countries in Southeast Asia, while "Rise" featured Zee Avi of Malaysia, Eric Bellinger and Vince Nantes of the United States, and Inigo Pascual and Sam Concepcion of the Philippines.
The latest exciting collaboration that is about to happen is one between the Philippines’ Leanne and Naara and Indonesia’s Rhamania Astrini.
Rahmania, a 19-year old star-in-the-making, is not a newbie. In fact, her first self-written English song "It's Amazing" charted in six countries, and peaked at Apple Music's Top 30 during its first week, while her follow-up single "Tak Lagi Sama" garnered more than 600k YouTube views and 300k Spotify streams in less than a month.
She’s now working on her first all- English EP which is scheduled to be released next year. She plans to collaborate with other artists, however, she is happy to have had the chance to collaborate with Leanne and Naara (i.e., Leanne Mamonong and Naara Acueza in real life) whom she looks up to.
“We met at a songwriting camp in Stockholm, Sweden,” Rhamania recounts. “We spent a couple of days together in Sweden – strolled around the city, drank more than 2 cups of coffee every time we wrote a song, and made a cover video together where they sounded totally amazing. I truly had the best time of my life. It was really nice working with Leanne & Naara. They are music geniuses who are really funny, kind, and just amazing – I’m really excited for their upcoming releases as well!".
