Consists of five boys, John Bermundo, Joaquin Reyes, Brace Arquiza, Grae Fernandez, and Nash Aguas, Gimme 5 has come a long way since the group was formed in 2013.
Originally, Gimme 5 was developed by ABS-CBN and its talent management arm Star Magic for the musical variety show ASAP, wherein they were officially launched.
“Akala talaga namin no’n, para sa ASAP lang. Hindi namin inexpect na magiging ganito, ‘yung magkaka-album kami,” said Brace in an exclusive interview with OneMusicPH.
(We really thought we were organized as a group for ASAP. only We didn’t expect that we’ll reach where we are now, having an album.)
In November 2014, Gimme 5, led by Nash, who has a more experience in showbiz industry, spawned their self-titled debut album under the Kapamilya recording label arm, Star Music.
The album they are continuously promoting this summer, has led them from one feat to another; hit singles such as “Hatid Sundo” and “Pag Kasama Ka,” to nominations and awards like their 46th Guillermo Awards Most Promising Recording/Performing Group recognition, to individual acting stints (except for Nash who’s been acting since he was a kid), and most importantly, to thousands of fans and supporters. Their sold-out album tours prove the the popularity of the group at the moment. Their sheer talents make John, Joaquin, Brace, Grae, and Nash —GIMME 5.
Gimme 5 shared with OneMusicPH their secrets on how they manage to get such achievements.
"Team po kami, nagkakaisa,” John told.
(We are a team. We are united.)
"On our own, perfectionists kami para mapatunayan na meron kaming mapapakita at hindi kami ginawa basta-basta lang,” said Joaquin.
(On our own, we’re perfectionists for us to prove that we can show them something and the group doesn't exist for nothing.)
Trivia: Gimme 5 never forgets to pray right before every performance and this must be one of the reasons for the group succes.
“Kumbaga, ritual na po talaga namin mag-pray bago mag-perform,” Grae shared.
(Praying before performing is like our ritual.)
“Sincerely, humihingi po talaga kami ng lakas kasi lahat naman kami, naniniwala sa Diyos. Siya lang po talaga ang makakapagbigay ng gabay sa amin sa mga kailangan naming gawin bukod pa sa pagp-practice namin,” Joaquin added.
(We sincerely ask for strength since we all believe in God. He is the only one who can guide us in everything we need to do aside from practising.)
Amid the rise of other teen male groups — Hype5, Hasht5, etc., Gimme 5, who credits the fans as they’re tagged as the hottest teen male group, looks forward to be still in tact years from now.
“Three years or five years from now, siguro may second album na kami at sana nakapag-concert na rin kami, ‘yung major,” said Nash.
(Three years or five years from now, we probably have our second album released and hopefully have have staged our major concert.)
“Kahit may mga individual careers kami sa TV, baka pwedeng solid pa rin kami as a group sa music industry,” Joaquin wished. “Para marami pa kaming matutunan.”
(Even if we have our own careers on TV, I wish we become more solid as a group in the music industry so that we can learn more.)
