Internationally-renowned Filipina drag artist Marina Summers successfully launched "Divine", her sensational debut single under Tarsier Records in a packed event at Empty Stomach, BGC, Taguig October 6, 2022. The show was a visual and aural delight as she shared the stage with fellow renowned drag queens OV C*nt, Prince, Eve Le Queen, and Tarsier Records recording artist Zion Aguirre, who hosted the show. Inspired by the heavenly bodies, and the LGBTQ+ community, Marina has created a dance anthem her community could claim as theirs.
“Divine” is a dance-pop anthem written by internationally-renowned Filipina drag artist Marina Summers and produced by multi-awarded producer, . Inspired by the LGBTQ+ community, Marina created a dance anthem that she wants the queer community to claim as theirs. “Divine” speaks of taking ownership of their individuality. The track plays around with heavenly references while its musicality is a mix of a dancehall with pop and a splash of flavor - a very befitting sound to the Marina Summers brand. “Divine” is the first of a body of work that Marina Summers will be releasing under Tarsier Records.
“Ultimately I was very inspired to make a new dance anthem that the queer community can claim as theirs. I’ve always wanted to champion queer talent wherever I go. Right now, there’s not much drag music out in the market. And as we know, music is an essential part of for drag (artists). And I think it’s high time for us to tell our stories through our own songs. This track is very inspired by heavenly bodies and how almost all people worship them. And as a queer person living in a Catholic/Christian country, it’s the other way around. The LGBTQ+ community has always been condoned and deemed to be “sinners” for just being queer alone. 'Divine' speaks about taking ownership and power of your body and individuality.” Marina says of "Divine". "It's about sex positivity. We want people to worship drag (culture) and drag queens. We're talking to everyone through this song. We want anthem for the people of the drag community to claim 'I'm divine, worship me. Worship the drag queens' We want to take over the world.
“Working with Marina on “Divine” was incredible. She brought such focused and fierce energy to the recording session. As with everything, she knows exactly what she wants and how to deliver it, is prepared, and is equally at home taking the lead or following guidance when she thinks she needs it. I was super impressed with her performance when I recorded her for Drag Race Philippines Season 1, so getting to work with her as a recording artist is amazing. She’s a drag queen with highly dynamic and energetic stage energy, so we wanted to keep it is a declaration; it shouts from the mountaintops, “I am Marina Summers and I am here.” She does a superb job of getting her brand and persona across in the lyrics and delivery. Producer said about collaborating with Marina.
"It's a very, very collaborative effort between me and Moophs. What I like about Tarsier Records is that they let me steer the wheel where I want to take my music and they let me take full control of the creative process and everything. All the (s0ng)writing was done by me and it was transcended by the beats of Moophs, and yeah, we created magic!" Summers proudly added.
In a roundtable interview with Marina, she was asked about where her focus is amidst the growing number of new opportunities her Drag Race Philippines run has opened for her. “Right now I’m very focused on making music, the music video’s come out, and there’ll be more music coming out, I’m very focused on that. I’m very focused on establishing queer excellence in the music industry”
"You know what, a lot has changed (since Drag Race). The level of respect towards the drag community is even better now, and we would love to see that grow even further as the years progress. We've been also able to provoke discussions about the queer community, and I think isa yun sa mga mabuting naidulot ng Drag Race Philippines, na hindi lang yung LGBTQ+ community ang nakaka-appreciate sa drag community. If you look around here marami diyang families, mga moms, mga dads, who really made it their primetime habit on a Wednesday night, even with their children. That's a good start, a big step towards championing queer excellence", Summers added.
