“Matilda” has seen a lot of adaptations in the past years. It was first a children’s novel, published in 1988, by British writer Roald Dahl. It was made into a film in 1996, and became a cult favorite starring Danny DeVito and Mara Wilson. Around 15 years later, it was adapted into a musical by Dennis Kelly, with words and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The musical didn’t reach our shores then, but Atlantis Theatrical has announced that they’ll be bringing the experience to us soon. The best part? Auditions are open and ongoing!
The Atlantis Theatrical group posted the invitation to Facebook, saying that adults between 18-40 with sufficient professional experience are welcome to audition today (November 2) at the SJG Building along Kalayaan Avenue. Kids auditions will be announced at a later date.
None other than Lea Salonga herself posted the announcement on her Twitter account, inviting followers to “give it a go.”

“Matilda” is the tale of a smart, six-year old girl who has neglectful parents and a cruel principal, both of which don’t care to see her talents. As she starts school, Matilda forms a strong bond with her teacher, Miss Honey, and develops her surprising power of telekinesis. She uses her power to prank her parents and the principal who are soon driven away, leaving Matilda to a new life living with Miss Honey.
No date has been announced for the Atlantis Theatrical production yet, but be sure to like their Facebook page and subscribe to One Music PH for updates!
