Yesterday’s finale of the 5th season of One Music POPSSSS was full of surprises for the hosts Inigo Pascual and Maris Racal, as well as their audience. This episode included a star studded guest list with OG One Music POPSSSS host Alexa Ilacad, Maris’ bestie Sue Ramirez, up and coming band Juan Karlos, and new Be Discovered artist Miguel Odron.
Miguel, who has just moved to the Philippines, joined Inigo for his very first live interview at Inigo’s Corner, where the pair immediately shared a bond as they both grew up in the US. Naturally, Inigo asked whether he was half Filipino or if he was born here in the Philippines, to which Miguel surprised Inigo when he said, “Yeah, from the ages of zero to 13. So marunong akong mag-Tagalog.” Despite knowing how to speak in the native tongue, Miguel mentioned that he still finds it awkward. However, Inigo assured him that things get better in the long run.
Being a new artist in the industry, Inigo asked about how Miguel started on his journey and what his influences are. The budding RnB artist said that he was supposed to finish his grad studies, but decided to pursue a career in music. Speaking of his influences, Miguel answered, “Mostly alternative RnB, like Daniel Cesar and SZA. As far as inspirations, I basically grew up on Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, that kind of old school soul.” Miguel later showed just how much these artists have influenced him during his performance of “Moon River” at the end of the segment.
After the interview, Inigo called in Maris and Alexa to join him and Miguel for a game of charades, where they had to guess words or phrases inspired by Filipino culture as a nod to August being the Buwan ng Wika. Check out the fun segment below!
Ultimately, the hilarious round was won by Inigo and Alexa’s team. In the end, all four of them had to do the #InMyFeelingsChallenge.
