MilesExperience is a band transformed: they say they had a blues sound and a John Mayer-inspired sound among supposedly many others, but in 2014, they finally hit their stride in what they call “rock fusion.” Purists might have a different definition of the genre, but for MilesExperience, it’s the combination of the members’ individual influences which range from classical, jazz, hiphop, metal, and blues. Last Tuesday (December 13), they gave us just that at our One Music Live Session. Check the video out below!
After playing a couple of cuts from their album, we sat down with Miles Bondoc (vocals/guitars), Justin Teano (guitars), Ian Diaz (bass), Guido Hizon (keyboard), and Timothy Odulio (drums) to find out more about the band and their future projects.
Only two years after establishing their current sound, MilesExperience released an album independently, and then got signed on to MCA Music. “Sobrang thankful kami sa mga tao sa MCA, kasi parang rarely magsign ngayon ng labels eh,” says Miles. (We're so thankful to MCA, because it's rarely nowadays to get signed up by a label.
Guido followed it up by saying "mas lalong thankful kami sa fans, sa mga friends namin na tumulong na ikalat yung music namin. Kasi kung wala naman sila, di naman aabot sa MCA yung music namin.” (We're more thankful to the fans, to friends who helped us to spread our music)
Today, it seems they’re poised to take over the local music scene. They recently guested on D5 Studio’s Christmas special and collaborated with none other than Urbandub’s Gabby Alipe himself, they’ll be rocking UST’s Paskuhan, and then come January, they’ll be joining Rakrakan’s OPM Against Drugs Festival. The event will be the band’s first festival, and they’ll be joined on the indie stage by the likes of Squid 9, Flying Ipis, We Are Imaginary, and more.
Next year, they’ll also be releasing a new music video for “Anggulo,” which they recently shot with the help of director Jiggy Gregorio. “Basa kami atsaka tuyo kami,” they joked as we asked what fans can expect from the video.
They also teased that they’ll be releasing new singles and hopefully also a new album by 2017, so that’s definitely something to watch out for.
Writer/photographer/non-musician that hopes to promote local independent music. Probably hanging out at a gig at this very moment...
