Established in 2017 as an international-forward label, Tarsier Records, an ABS-CBN Music label, has been making milestones in the export of Filipino talent in the world stage, to the import of international music to the Philippine audiences. Initially the home of EDM (electronic dance music) in its first cycle, the record label targeted to millennial-Gen Z listeners evolved to a catalog shaped by its artists’ growth, the music they create, and the sound of today.
“If you listen to our music chronologically, you’ll probably notice a shift from electronic music in the early days more toward hip-hop, R&B, stripped down acoustic stuff and even elements of indie, though we do have some talented EDM producers onboard (some of them fresh signees). We’ve definitely widened our view on the kind of music we support which I think is a good thing. all that really matters is does it have a vibe and do we think it will connect with our audiences, wherever they may be.”, shares Chris Lopez (aka “Moophs”), founder and label head of Tarsier Records.
In a social media campaign aptly titled “Class of 2021”, the label makes a statement on the state of the music industry in the Philippines: vibrant, welcoming, and emerging.
The lineup announcement for Tarsier Records’ year 2021 in music reaffirms ties with top Filipino talent and its original signees such as Inigo Pascual, Kiana V, Sam Concepcion, Markus, Moophs, Subzylla, Edana, Kyler, YUZON, and Xela, and introduces the best up-and coming acts, rapper Dotty (formerly known as “marc”), R&B artists daze, Annette, and Gessie, Spotify Radar 2021 folk-gospel-neo-soul act allen&elle, Singapore-based Filipino artists Tonie Enriquez and Dave Anounuevo, esteemed Asian DJ-producers Arthur Tan and Kaiyo, indie artist Recio, and the youngest of the batch: Ocean Crosby, a master guitarist & singer-songwriter in her teenage years. The label’s 2021 roster includes familiar faces: OPM greats KZ Tandingan and Bugoy Drilon, Chi and Gabs Gibbs of the musical duo GIBBS, Russell Reyes (formerly of Boyband PH), TikTok viral content creator-singer-songwriter Zion Aguirre, and Star Music singer-songwriters SAB and Miguel Odron. All artists named and more will shape the label further in 2021.
“Stay tuned for more quality music from great artists! If there’s anything I’m proud of with our brand, it’s the quality. we don’t release bad music - it’s just not something we do, and we release a lot of music, so I hope that’s perceptible to people. I’d like to think we’ve reached a point where our listeners fully trust the brand to deliver to them world class music made by Filipinos, non-Filipinos, and everyone in between. My hope for the label is to continue to grow as a portal for the import and export of good music; a place where artists and fans from anywhere in the world can gather, collaborate, exchange ideas and help tell our collective story. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”, said the label head.
