Not a lot of young people know who Chickoy Pura or The Jerks are nowadays, and honestly, that’s fine—because surely, any of Pura’s or The Jerks’ songs are familiar:
The Jerks, Category: Artist, Albums: The Jerks, Jerk Off, We Hate You: Live In Leeds & London, Top Tracks: Reklamo Ng Reklamo, Sayaw Sa Bubog, Rage, Kun' Di Man, Bitterly, Biography: If any band has paid its dues, it's the Jerks.
The Jerks, undoubtedly one of the most influential classic rock n roll bands in the Philippines, was founded by Chickoy Pura, who also happens to be one of the most respected and revered performers in the local industry.
The Jerks, in spite of their huge popularity from the 70's until the 90's, only ever produced two albums: their debut album, The Jerks Live!!! was released in 1994, a full 15 years since the band was founded by Chickoy Pura, and their second album, The Jerks, released in 1997 under Star Records.
Despite their legendary status, The Jerks only ever produced two albums, but were nevertheless regarded by giggers and concert-goers as “underground legends,” and would often see crowds in the hundreds whenever they performed at any of their usual haunts.
In fact, they were so legendary, that Chickoy Pura was one of the first few artists we’ve ever guested on the One Music LIVE stage:

Despite so many years, Chickoy Pura never backed away from the challenges of his craft and industry, and always faced them head on, eventually settling on top, becoming the legendary icon he is today. However, today presents him with a new challenge: the legendary musician has been recently diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma and is currently undergoing treatment. Of course, a treatment for this kind of disease is no easy feat, and his family, friends, and fans have put up a fundraiser in order to help with the finances in battling this disease.
Amidst these trying times, the rock icon remains hopeful: ”The bright side of this struggle is the overwhelming goodwill from a lot of people. It is so humbling and strengthening. It is keeping me strong in facing this challenge,” Chickoy Pura himself said in an Interview with Igan D'Bayan.
Any amount donated towards the treatment of the rock icon will be greatly appreciated. Donate through the Friends Of Chickoy website here.
Chickoy co -founded The Jerks in 1978. A lot of famous bands today point back to The Jerks as a major inspiration. "The bright side of this struggle is the overwhelming goodwill from a lot of people. It is so humbling and strengthening. It is keeping me strong in facing this challenge."
Rock on, Chickoy Pura!
