Mika Salamanca, a Filipina YouTuber and singer, was arrested in Honolulu, Hawaii for violating the country's 14-day quarantine protocol for foreign tourists and returning residents.
This was confirmed by a report from KITV4 ABC Island News, saying that Salamanca arrived in Hawaii on July 6.
However, the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) learned that she went out four days later (July 10), dancing and dining out in public with friends.
Meanwhile, in a vlog post on July 22, Salamanca has addressed the issue.
According to the 20-year-old influencer, authorities have told her that if she had proof of a negative COVID-19 test, she would be allowed.
But the Special Agents from the Investigations Division of the Department of the Attorney General clarified they never issued such advisory.
"None of my investigators would convey that information, as it is incorrect. The fact that Ms. Salamanca has so many followers makes her actions that much more dangerous and concerning. The spread of misinformation can have very severe consequences during an emergency situation like we are in now," Attorney General Clare E. Connors told KITV.
The report also said that Salamanca's relatives posted $2,000 bail to get her out.
